Dashboard Warning Lights Explained
Why they come on and what actions you need to take
Warning lights may appear in either red or amber
If a red light appears, you should not drive your vehicle and contact you breakdown insurance company
An amber light appears to give you a warning that there is a malfunction in your vehicle that needs to be checked in a garage workshop
Common Red Dash & Amber Warning Lights
Engine Coolant Light
Why did this light appear:
This warning indicates that coolant level is low.
What do I need to do?
Switch off the engine and do not drive any further. Check the coolant level and if it is low, top it up (refer to the owners manual). Restart the engine. If the light goes out you can continue driving. If the light does not go out, call your breakdown assistance company.
Oil Level Light
Why did this light appear:
This warning indicates that the oil level is low and needs to be topped up urgently.
What do I need to do?
Switch off the engine and check the oil level. Add more oil until it is at the correct level. Start the engine and let it run for five seconds monitoring the warning lamp. Then switch off the engine. If the light goes out after 5 seconds, continue driving. If not, call your breakdown assistance company.
Parking Brake Light
Why did this light appear:
This light can appear if the handbrake is applied. It is a normal operating feature.
What do I need to do?
When you release the handbrake the light should go out. If it does not, stop the vehicle and check the brake fluid level. If the brake fluid level is ok contact your breakdown assistance company. If the brake fluid need to be topped up, do so and check if the warning light goes out. If it does, you can continue driving. If not, contact your breakdown assistance company.
Diesel Particulate Filter
Why did this light appear:
The DPF needs to regenerate. The DPF hasn't had a chance to regenerate due to lack of driving or only taking short journeys.
What do I need to do?
Ensure you have adequate fuel in the car, minimum of 20 litres, and carry out a regeneration as per your user manual. Should you require assistance please contact our service department.
Check Engine Light
Why did this light appear:
Indicator light turns on whenever the engine is turned on to check the bulb. If the light stays illuminated, the car's diagnostic systems have detected a malfunction that needs to be investigated.
What do I need to do?
A diagnostic is required - Please contact our service team to arrange an appointment. If there is an issue with the performance, please contact your breakdown assistance provider.
Tyre Pressure Light
Why did this light appear:
Your car has detected that your tyres are not at the optimum pressure level. When a car is stationary for long periods of time changes in temperature or atmospheric changes can affect tyre pressures and this can cause tyre pressure light to turn on.
What do I need to do?
Follow the reset instructions as per your manual and check the tyre pressure. This can be done at your local petrol station.
Why did this light appear:
This light will appear if a fault for the fuel system is present. Please note, this same light may appear if an issue with the engine is present.
What do I need to do?

Clogged Air Filter
Why did this light appear:
Indicator light turns on when there is reduced airflow to the engine.
What do I need to do?
The air filter needs to be replaced or inspected. Please contact our service team to arrange an appointment.
Transmission Temperature
Why did this light appear:
Indicator light means the engine temperature has exceeded normal limits.
What do I need to do?
Check coolant level, fan operation, radiator cap, coolant leaks. If you're unsure, please contact our service team to arrange an appointment.
Air Bag Light
Why did this light appear:
The air bag light appears if a fault is detected in the air bag or seat belt system.
What do I need to do?
A diagnostic is required - Please contact our service team to arrange an appointment.
Anti-Lock Breaking System
Why did this light appear:
The ABS light comes on due to an issue with the anti-lock braking system. This may be as a result of low brake fluid, a blown fuse, or abnormal signals from wheel sensors.
What do I need to do?

Bulb Monitoring Light
Why did this light appear:
This light will appear when an exterior bulb is defective.
What do I need to do?
Check the operation of all exterior bulbs and replace the defective bulb without delay.
